South Georgia and Antarctic Peninsula - Itinerary

Arriving to Ushuaia

(We recommend that you arrive in Ushuaia at least one day before the embarkation day.)
As your plane lands in Ushuaia, you’ll be treated to a stunning view.
Ushuaia is a picturesque community nestled at the foot of the Andes with snowcapped peaks and luscious green valleys. Walk along the main street with its charming boutiques and cafes, or along the harbour to get your first glimpse of the seabirds who will accompany you out of the Beagle Channel.

Day 1- Embarkation day

During the morning you can take advantage of this half-day for some more exploring. We recommend that you visit the Tierra del Fuego National park. In the Afternoon you will arrive to the Ushuaia pier for the embarkation (we offer an optional transfer from your hotel to the pier). After boarding, you will be welcomed by the Expedition Staff and Crew. In addition, there will be a series of information sessions and a mandatory safety briefing while the ship is navigating the Beagle Channel into the open waters of the South Atlantic Ocean.

Days 2-3 (South Atlantic)

As we sail towards the Falkland/Malvinas Islands, you will be treated to entertaining in educational programming aboard. The Expedition Staff complete with naturalists, geologists, and historians will delight you with tales of the sea, the wildlife, and the geological wonders of this region. Relax, enjoy the onboard service which will care for your every need, and spend some time on deck spotting for Wandering Albatross, Giant Petrels, and other curious onlookers.

Days 4-5 (Falkland Islands)

You’ll be whisked away to shore on your first set of landings for this adventure. Here, on the Falkland/Malvinas Islands, you will visit with the local wildlife, include Magellanic Penguins, Albatross, and a wide diversity of other seabirds. You’ll also meet some of the local human residents! With mountain ranges reaching over 700m, stunning uninhabited beaches, and the open sea in almost every direction, this is sure to be a terrific first destination.

Days 6-7 (Scotia Sea)

On board an at sea, the expert Expedition Staff will begin to prepare you for your visit to South Georgia, an island packed with history and wildlife. You will be invited to attend seminars on the history of whaling, exploration, and on the abundance of wildlife found on this tiny island.

Days 8-11

As the ship approaches the island of South Georgia, you will be amazed by its beauty. Snow capped mountain ranges with bright green valleys and icebergs floating between them and you. You will spend the next few days exploring the East shore of the Island where it is protected from the furry of the Westerlies. Here you will spend time with curious King Penguins as they accept you as one of their own. Elephant and fur seals will line the beaches and seabirds will soar overhead. You will visit abandoned whaling stations, part of South Georgia’s rich human history, and get a glimpse of what living on this island really meant.

Days 12 -17

As we sail towards the Antarctic Peninsula, we will pass giant icebergs and some small islands of the Southern Ocean. Elephant Island, where Shackleton’s crew awaited rescue, is one of the most noted. Be on the lookout for wildlife, both in the air above, and in the water below!
For the next few days we will explore the Antarctic Peninsula and its adjacent islands. Here you will meet not only the Gentoo and Chinstrap Penguins, but also the Adelie Penguins, one of two true Antarctic species. This land of snow and ice will amaze you with its coastlines of glaciers and ice shelves surrounded by sea ice and icebergs. With only a tiny proportion of exposed land, we will take advantage of as many as possible to bring you ashore twice a day (weather permitting).
We will take you on zodiac cruises to glaciers, or visit scientific stations, and penguin colonies. We may even have the chance to take you for a dip in the thermal waters of an active volcano! (bring your swimsuits!).

Days 18-19

As our adventure winds down, we will take you through the famous Drake Passage as we sail towards Ushuaia. Known for high winds and rolling waves, sailing this passage is just as an authentic Antarctic experience as fraternizing with penguins and iceberg spotting. Enjoy you time on deck spotting for wildlife. Join our Expedition Staff for their final series of lectures and debriefings.

Day 20

During the morning we’ll arrive to Ushuaia, having walked the path of the great explorers and adventurers, having tread upon the same land and marveled at the same vast landscape. And now, like them, you’ll understand the enduring lure of the White Continent.
